Summer
2023This painting is the result of a contemplation over summer, what summer means to me. This has resulted in the use of many symbolical images which convey insights. The painting is one of a series, based on the four seasons, and then specifically of life, my life, but perhaps others recognise something here or there. In the summer there is a forgetfulness of the dark and cold. One loses oneself in the impulsiveness and blossoming of love, joie de vivre and enjoyment of the beauty of nature. But nothing is permanent, everything passes. There are symbolic indications of this findable.

The Seeker
2012This is an allegorical painting. The seeker seeks out the meaning of the mystery of life - the jewel of great price. The forces of nature ( the stags), the dragon that guards the jewel, and the path of inner searching and the necessary asceticism and hardships are to be faced and accepted with the trusting simplicity of a child. The child symbolises the trusting soul, the mother -universal love smiles at the child who longs for truth. The lotus of the heart bloems and the truth is revealed. The dragon is also an ouroboros - world-wide symbol for the eternal circle of disintegration and re-integration, destruction and renewal.In Hinduism and Buddhism it symbolises the wheel of samsara.

The gift
2010A building, especially a church symbolises for me ' the self '. A ruin represents the self experienced as falling apart, destroyed, without hope. The dove is a symbol of the Holy spirit who brings life.It is a symbol of wisdom and the bringer of hope and new life. The rose represents the heart or the heart chakra, and water voor renewal. The hands are in the receptive position as the soul's receptivity. The sun is present as the eternal presence of God 'in whom we live and move and have our being'.

The soul as angel
2009With this painting I wanted to play with the idea of life being a tapestry which we weave during the course of our lives.
Incantation
2007A shamanistic 'healing' ceremony. The dark birds represent dark thoughts. The shaman wears an owl mask. The owl is a wisdom and transition totem animal. The owl sees through the delusion of confused thinking and emotions which causes mental suffering. The Shaman chases the dark birds of the mind away.
